Pink Dream - Smoothie

I had an idea for a sweet but yogurt-like smoothie and so I came up with this recipe. Not exactly like yogurt but sort of had a creamy yogurt taste to it. The texture for me came out perfect and the sweetness was just right. The below recipe serves about 3 people.

Ingredients - 3 Servings
10 oz Organic Frozen Mangoes
10 oz Organic Frozen Strawberries
1 Organic Orange
2 Organic Bananas (the riper the better)
1 Cup Water (more or less)

Toss frozen ingredients into blender first, followed by the bananas. Then juice your orange (I used a lemon squeezer) and add in the juice of the orange. Turn your blender on at low speed and slowly add the water in while raising up the speed of the blender, until all the water is in and the mixture is smooth. No sugar, no milk, just fruits. Enjoy!

Sweet N' Sour Smoothie

This morning I was in the mood for a smoothie and didn't have any bananas so I decided to juice up some oranges and lemon to use as my base for the smoothie which actually turned out to be a very delicious idea.

The mixture of juiced oranges and lemon imitated a grapefruit flavor but with a little more sweetness to it, so if you're ever craving grapefruit in your smoothie and you have some oranges and lemons, then no worries! This recipe I whipped up is very simple and tasty, hope you enjoy!

Ingredients
10 oz Organic Frozen Mangos
6-8 oz Organic Frozen Strawberries
2 Organic Oranges
1/2 Organic Lemon

Juice both the oranges and lemon in your juicer, leave the peel on for the lemon but peel off the orange peel because it can be very bitter. Toss juice into blender and add the remaining ingredients and blend until smooth. No sugar, no milk, just fruits! Enjoy!

Super Sweet Banana-Strawberry-Apple Juice Smoothie

It's finally spring time and although the weather hasn't been fabulous here in New York yet, I decided to whip up a new recipe for a super sweet refreshing smoothie to prepare me for the hot days to come. I haven't been posting many blogs lately and I apologize for that but I promise I'll be posting lots more soon, things have been a little busy lately. So lots of new recipes coming soon for tasty vegan treats and whatnot. This one I'm about to post just sounded good to me in my head so I took 3 simple ingredients and made an awesome smoothie with it. Hope you enjoy!

Recipe - Serves 2 to 3 people
-------------------------------------------
Juice of 4 apples (I used Organic Pink Lady Apples from Trader Joes)
3 Small Organic Bananas
About a handful or two of Organic Frozen Strawberries

And that's it! No water, no ice, & no sweeteners. Just juice the apples and add the juice along with the rest of the ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. It tastes so good and amazingly sweet without any added sugars. Below is a pic I took of the rest of the smoothie in my blender, I almost forgot to take a picture and remembered last second. Try it out and let me know what you think by commenting below!

Take Out From Rockin'Raw (Raw Vegetarian Restaurant)

Today I decided to go to rockin'raw with my brother to order some take out. Below are all the pictures of the foods that we ordered, we did not eat all of it by ourselves as we had plenty of help. Rockin'Raw is one of my favorite raw restaurants in nyc and I recommend anyone in the brooklyn area to go check them out! Their telephone number and address can be found on their website rockinraw.com. It's a nice cozy spot with plenty of room to sit and also a backyard area where you can sit and eat when the weather gets nicer. I didn't sit down and eat in as I usually would so I don't have any pictures of the inside so I'll probably be doing a reblog about rockin'raw in the future and show some pictures of the inside and some of the friendly chefs and waiters/waitresses. The reason I really like this restaurant is because there's a huge variety of foods to choose from all the way from the starters to the entrees and the desserts/drinks. The prices are also not so expensive as you would see at other raw restaurants but at the same time the prices aren't so low either. Overall great place and friendly staff. Actual there was a new girl working there today when I came to pick up my food and she was very friendly and kind to me and my bro and shes also a raw vegan as well, woot! Well here are the pictures guys/gals, enjoy.

The picture above are the tacos I had that were so tasty and fulfilling. It was filled with gaucamole, sour cream, nut/seed meat and some healthy leafy greens. The tortilla was nice and soft and I definitely would have it again.

This one was the lasagna that my brothers girlfriend had, she loved it. I've had the lasagna plenty of times and once again a definite recommended entree at rockin'raw. It had layers of zucchini topped with a sun-dried tomato sauce and inbetween the layers were a delicious nut cheese with some mushrooms and herbs/spices.

This entree was similar to the tacos I had and my brother let me have a taste of it, I think I like it better then the tacos. It was a cheezy burrito filled with some type of cheezy sauce and just other goodness. The bright yellow creepy thing in front of it are caramelized plantains that didn't come out well in the camera shot so sorry about that! I love plantains so personally I really like the caramelized plantains, my brother says their okay. I'm not sure if they serve the tacos and burritos on a daily basis so if your planning on going to order some make sure you call in advance and ask if they can make a special order for u. I think this is my favorite dish I've had at rockin'raw so far. My brother always orders better then me so for now on I'm having him order everything for me, lol.

Last but not least, dessert! You know I couldn't leave there without a sweet snack so I had to get these slices of cakes. The one on the left is a chocolate mint kind of cheesecake that tasted veryyy good, but veryy overpowering if you take one too many bites out of it. I would say try and eat it throughout the day instead of knocking it out in one sitting. The middle one is a chocolate lucama cheesecake that was also veryyy good and personally better then the others, but also very overpowering if eaten in one sitting aswell. The last one on the right is a newyork cheesecake that had some special sauce drizzled on top, very delicious and not too overpowering for the people who like a sweet but not too sweet cake. They were all good and I'd recommend them all to anyone who would like to get some desserts from there. They also do special occasion desserts so if you need a birthday cake or wedding cake make sure you check these guys out at rockinraw.com, your taste buds will thank you, and so will your health!  I'm out for now and I hope you all stay tuned for some more rockin blogs of mine :)

My Last Day At Raw Soul (Raw Vegetarian Restaurant)

So I recently told you guys/gals that I was going to be blogging about a raw restaurant called Rawsoul and so here it is. Sadly Rawsoul is now closed down but I had a speak with the owner of the place and it was for good causes in the community. I'm glad I went before they did close down because the food was delicious and the experience was just overall a great one. I went with my older brother and his girlfriend, along with my uncle and his girlfriend and I'm pretty sure they feel the same way I do about the food. The name fits the restaurant perfectly because they really put some SOUL into their raw dishes. So here are the pictures as promised, we really pigged out but I'm glad we did! The picture above is of myself, my brother and the owner/chef of rawsoul, I am on the left.

We all had a cabbage/miso/chickpeas soup as an appetizer and this soup was off the hook and couldn't of been made any better. It had a hint of spice to it but not too much. I'm not sure what other spices they put into it but all I know is that they did a good job at it. Best raw soup I've ever add hands down. The pics below are all the entrees we had.

The first pic is the enchiladas that my brother had. It doesn't even look raw and I have no clue how they did it but I think that was the best raw meal I've ever tasted (my brother gave me a few bites). You can't see the inside from this side of the picture but it was stuffed with some kind of imitation meat that had a little spicy kick to it but not too overwhelming. The sauce and olives on top gave it a nice salty/creamy taste. Before we took the picture there were two enchiladas but as you can tell one of them were downed so quickly before we could even pull out the camera.

This second pictures is the bbq burger that my brothers girlfriend had and this meal also came with two burgers but I think you know what happened to the first one. I also got a little taste of this burger and it was very good, a little on the earthy side but still very tasty. It consisted of some type of imitation meat topped off with an amazing bbq sauce and some earthy sprouts in between two pieces of flax bread. Personally not as good as the enchiladas but still well worth it and it fills you up. I'm going to have to learn to make something like this at home.

The third meal was a tamale pie and a side drink of what was called "coconut dream". The tamale pie almost comes close to the enchiladas because of the way they put the flavors together, I'm not sure how they did this one. The imitation meat on the inside has a heaviness to it but at the same time it was pretty sweet, almost like a dessert. The outside crust was very tasty too and not bland at all. The drink that came along was also very delicious. I think everyone ordered better meals then me that night!

This last entree was the one that I ordered and it was the mini plate special of the day. It consisted of some type of creamy chili surrounded by a bed of spinach that sort of tasted like it was smoked, I really liked how they made it taste cooked although it was raw. On the side there was a big piece of cornbread that came along with it and it was very satisfying. I'll admit all the other entree's had some unique flavors and were overall better tasting then mine but I was still very satisfied and the meal I had still hit the spot like no other meal I've made at home. I really need to learn how the make that cornbread!

Now I only got to take two pictures of the desserts we had. I quickly went to the restroom while the desserts were being prepared and when I came back two of them were already demolished! I forgot the name of one of them but the other one that I didn't get to take a picture of was the raspberry cheesecake. My uncle ordered that one and he left me a tiny piece when I got back from the restroom. The best raw cheesecake I've ever tasted hands down, it sort of tasted like a REAL cheesecake and that's hard to find in the raw food world. Below are the two pictures I did get to take even though one of them was already halfway done -__-

This one is the applecrumb butter parfait. It tasted very good and the crumbs really stood intact and weren't soggy. It tasted better then the lemon pie that I had below although it doesn't look like it does. For some reason every meal/dessert that everyone got were much better then mines, maybe I should start letting people order for me from now on =P

The lemon pie was pretty zesty and the sauce that covered it had a nice creamy taste to it. The crust also did not taste bland nor did it taste too sweet, it was good enough for me to enjoy the crust but still taste the flavors of the lemon and cream sauce. Unfortunately rawsoul is now closed down in nyc, but on to bigger and better things in Santa Fe, New Mexico. If you want to keep up with what rawsoul is doing you can visit them at rawsoul.com, I believe they will be selling some of their products at certain health food stores so make sure you check them out!
